Sound and Vision II details published - CRAOL provides analysis of changes to members
|
The BAI have released the application forms and guidelines for Sound and Vision II along with the scheme documentation.
CRAOL have today provided an INITIAL ANALYSIS of the CHANGES from a community radio perspective directly to it's members. For a copy please email helpline@craol.ie
This funding scheme follows directly on from Sound and Vision but with an expanded budget (increased from 5% of the licence fee to 7%), an expansion of eligible programme categories and significant changes to the budgeting, peak time requirements, and assessment, especially for the Community sector

Claremorris Community Radio seeks Part-time Production Executive - Closing date 9th March
|
Claremorris Community Radio are seeking a part-time (19.5 hours per week) Production Executive. The sucessful candidate will be tasked with ensuring that Claremorris Community Radio programmes, advertisements, community notices, features and jingles are produced to a suitable standard and on time for broadcast. BAI announces funding decisions for Sound and Vision Round 9 |
The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has announced funding decisions for Round 9 Radio of Sound & Vision – The Broadcasting Funding Scheme.
Grants totalling €956,000 have been awarded to support the production of 88 radio projects. 239 applications were received. All the funded programmes will explore the themes of Irish culture, heritage and experience.
While documentary programmes account for the highest amount of funding being offered, the genres of radio drama, children’s programming and education programmes also figure strongly. €146,000 of the total amount has been awarded to Irish language/bi-lingual radio programmes.
15 Community Stations including 3 Aspirants were sucessful representing the highest level of sucessful participation to date. The 2 biggest sucess stories were Corca Baiscinn who secured seven projects, and new participant Athlone Community Radio who secured 4 projects.
The full list of Community Radio sucesses were Athlone (4), Ballyhoura (1), Claremorris (2), Castlebar (1), Cork, (1), Dublin South (3), Erris (1) Flirt (2), Inishowen (4), Life (2), Liffey Sound (1), NEAR (2), Phoenix (1), Tipperary Mid-west (2) West Dublin (1), West Limerick (1).
In a new departure, the BAI have not released either the amount secured nor the station that programmes are to be broadcast on.

Dublin South FM nominated for AONTAS STAR Award |
Dublin South FM, the Community Radio Station based in Dundrum, has been shortlisted in the ‘Once off Initiatives’ category of the AONTAS STAR awards for a four part radio series. "How to learn English" offers practical advice and support to people learning English as a second language. The awards highlight outstanding examples of adult education each year.
The awards will be presented at a special ceremony at No. 6 Kildare Street on February 22nd, with the names of the winners kept strictly under wraps until then. The Awards Ceremony itself marks the official opening of the AONTAS Adult Learners’ Festival 2010 – a weeklong series of events around the country all on the theme of adult learning. Three Communities awarded full broadcasting licences "in principle"
|
Three Communities have been informed by the BAI that they have been awarded full community radio licences "in principle". Athlone, South West Donegal and East Limerick received the good news last night following a meeting of the BAI Contract Awards Committee. The decision now goes to the full Authority for ratification later this month. After this ratification, the communities involved will be given details of the conditions they will have to meet in order to sign a broadcasting contract. The BAI decision follows from an application process that closed in September 2009. All three communities has previously been involved in sucessful 30-day 'temporary' licences. Congratulations to all three communities.

Haiti: AMARC calls on community broadcasters to rally in support
|
AMARC, the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters of which CRAOL is a member, has called on community radio broadcasters worldwide to rally in support of the people of Haiti, following the massive earthquake that has killed thousands of people and destroyed essential infrastructure.AMARC is calling on community broadcasters to support the international relief effort by organizing airtime appeals and other activities, and to provide direct assistance to community broadcasters affected by the earthquake, including equipment donations and financial support. CRAOL wishes one and all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
|
Happy Christmas from CRAOL. The CRAOl helpline is now closed until the 4th January and will open for email queries only (helpline@craol.ie) until 11th January. Thanks to everyone who helped to make 2009 a landmark year in many ways for Community Radio in Ireland. May your festive season be a safe and secure one.
