PLEASE NOTE: This course is restricted to registered participants in the Phoenix FM - Fingal Integration Project

It leads to FETAC Level 4 (Component Certificate) in Community Radio. The course aims to give learners a grounding in both the ethos of community radio and in the practical skills. By the end of the course, learners will:

• Understand the basic principles of Community Radio

• Understand the basics of interviewing and research

• Be capable of recording an interview safely

• Be able to define libel and other key legal concepts

Duration of the course

The course will take 21 hours and will be mix of hands-on skills with theory in each session. The Sessions will take place every Tuesday from 2pm-5pm for 7 weeks, starting on 15th of March.

Venue

Sessions 1, 2 and 4 and 5 will be at St Kieran’s Centre, while 3, 6 and 7 will be held at Athlone Community Radio Station Studios. The course last session is on 3rd of May. Award This course is an accredited course leading to a FETAC Level 4 in Community Radio Certificate.

How is the course assessed?

The course is assessed by 2 Assignments each worth 25% and One Group Project worth 50% of the total marks.

• Assignment 1 (25%) – Conduct a Studio Interview with a Community Group or individual;

• Assignment 2 (25%)- Conduct an interview on location with a Community Group;

• Project (50%) – Research, Plan and Record a Half an Hour Programme as a team (open to use interviews from the assignment)
