(See below for Irish Language Programmes for Broadcasts by Craol Member Stations)
Objectives and Activities
Craol's Irish Language Development Initiative has the following objectives:
1. Increase the number of hours of Irish Language programming broadcast by member stations
2. Support programmers in the creation of compelling Irish Language programming content
3. Share knowledge through collaboration/knowledge exchange
4. broaden the range of content covered through Irish within the schedules of each member station
5. Attract new Irish programme volunteers into community radio
6. Work with Station managers and Programming committees to enhance the profile of Irish language activity across the schedule and activities
To reach these objectives, Craol has embarked on a number of initatives. Over the past couple of years these have included a survey of the member stations, the creation of Irish language co-productions under the Craol umbrella, (see Programming Downloads below) creation of contacts with Irish language development organisations, and the mentoring of staff and volunteers involved in Irish Language Programming.
A Irish language working group has been established which reports regularly to the Craol Coordinating Committee. The working group is implementing a multi-year strategy around creation.
As part of this, Craol appointed a Irish Language Development Coordinator Helena King in 2011. Helena is currently meeting with Craol member stations to gauge the current state of Irish Language Programming and the support required. Helena is also producing a series of 30 Minute programmes "I gComhra le..." for broadcast by Craol Radio stations (see Programming Downloads below).
